Onzo Charity Challenge – Casuarina House

London, 17th February 2010

We’re delighted to say that the charity challenge was a success and the team raised a grand total of £4148.05.

Phase 1 of this project was the construction of Casuarina House, which was completed in 2009. Just a few months on and the well has been completed in time for the opening of Build Phase 2, which took place on 29th January 2010.

The water well is 80ft deep; all of which was dug by hand. In the run up to the opening the main water supply had been dry for a week which gave a stark reminder of the well’s importance. Now that it’s up and running, storage tanks can be installed to ensure that there’s enough water for the children and also for crops. This is key to helping the orphanage become self sustaining.

The official opening of Casuarina House and the well was quite an event; almost all the local villagers attended to enjoy food and music. As you can see from the picture all the children in the village were keen to get inside the new building and have a look around.

Thanks again to everyone who supported; on the day and the massive generosity through justgiving.
