Product Designer
Location: Central London
Salary: £Competitive
This is a 3 month FTC for an experienced Product Designer. The Product Designer will assist in the development of new product ideas and work up solutions from concepts through to post-production. This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark in a dynamic and rapidly expanding company.
Core skills required:
• Design for manufacture expertise
• confident in producing production quality artwork
• Proficient in Solidworks, Photoworks and Adobe CS.
Desirable skills:
• Service design experience, strategic design skills, user centered research and strategic marketing
• Plastic Injection modelling
Specific responsibilities:
• Work within a cross disciplinary team (mechanical, electronics, software, marketing, business) to generate concepts (and improvements) for future products, services and business ventures.
• Work with Professional Services as required on consultancy projects, looking at design input
• Manage workload with awareness and (where applicable) maintenance of project planning
• Manage prototyping and product requirements with awareness and (where applicable) management of project budget constraints
• Undertake research to understand market opportunities, and audience requirements (end customer, utility)
• Demonstrate and apply an understanding of classical physical principles, engineering principles, material properties, manufacturing technologies, sustainability and project budget requirements to all areas of work
• Sketch ideas to communicate them
• CAD ideas and render them as required
• Communicate and demonstrate ideas using appropriate models in card, foam and engineering materials
• Validate designs by defining and planning scientifically valid methods for testing, conducting or supervising testing, and evaluating the results
• Build test rigs, building prototypes, model making, commissioning prototypes
• Produce CAD for assembly and tolerance analysis
• Communicate progress and findings to others
• Maintain an accurate record of all activities using notes, sketches and email correspondence on a daily basis
• Generate drawings and other documentation for production observing excellent documentation control and revision management
• Work directly with manufacturing partners to develop and refine designs for production
• Support production with sample approvals, documentation, BoM definition and cost down improvements
