Onzo Gathers Valuable Insight From Major Global Utility Events

Gaining a global perspective on the Utility industry
ONZO has been busy attending some of the biggest Utility events across the globe recently, active at Utility Analytics Week in New Orleans, European Utility Week in Vienna and Australian Utility Week in Sydney. There is clearly a growing and sustained interest in consumer data analytics as utilities recognise and focus on how they can leverage the increasing levels of data available through smart meters and sensors.
At Utility Analytics Week we presented with Bart Beekhuizen, from Greenchoice, on the innovative solutions offered through the customer engagement app developed together with ONZO.  Participants were interested in hearing how Greenchoice and ONZO had taken smart meter data and made this technology accessible to a large customer base through an app. In particular, the ability to analyse engagement with the app, including the number of times visited and the duration of each visit by the users. All of which is valuable information for the utility.
At European Utility Week, Honeywell were with us on the stand to demonstrate how analytics can create opportunities for partners. We were keen to find out how the utility companies felt about customer engagement so carried out our own research at the event. The results proved that the Utility industry recognises the opportunity that insight into customers energy use provides. Fifty five percent stated that customer engagement is crucial for the future success of the industry, with 60% planning to implement programmes to support this in 2016.
In Australia we spent time with our partners Embertec and EDMI talking to utilities throughout the continent promoting the value from customer engagement and also insights gained from consumer energy use that can be used by the utility to drive new and more relevant programmes in areas such as operations, network planning and marketing. Australasia being a highly competitive market place is ripe for new methods needed to reduce churn and retain customers.
We further benefited from being a guest of EDMI on their stand at Australian Utility Week in Sydney. This gave a great opportunity to showcase our combined capability with EDMI’s Energy Cloud solution in front of Australasia’s biggest utility companies.
All events were a great success and gave us valuable vision into the future demands of the utility industry. We look forward to attending them again next year!
